Precious Cargo! Eleanor takes a ride an the Adirondack Pack Basket
On Saturday The Beck Family went down to Blue Mountain Lake to check out the BMC Artist Residency Center. We were highly impressed by the grounds and learned that the residency was an old 'Great Camp' donated to create this beautiful artists' retreat. Great Camps are rustic mansions with many matching buildings and are found in the Adirondack park. Many were self-sufficient with massive gardens and livestock, and some even had their own railway lines that brought guests to and from the wilderness retreats in style.
Eleanor's chariot, and another chariot
We then spent 5 straight hours at the Adirondack Museum! I was a little warm (it was 85 and sunny), but we had a great time learning about the history of the Adirondacks. Eleanor enjoyed staring at the strange costumed 'Mountain Men' that were camped outside on the lawn with 19th century camping paraphernalia. She also enjoyed seeing the boats, carriages, fishing equipment, early structures, and wild life examples that filled the many museum buildings and displays. She was so tired by the end of the day that she slept the entire 2 hours home.
